The mission of the Creative Art Residencies Programme is to provide spaces where artists have the time to focus on creating away from the distractions of their usual environments.
Creative people are encouraged to take a break from their usual lives and set aside a block of time to focus on their creativity.
A space for self-directed exploration and learning offers creatives the ability to concentrate on a particular project, to develop new ideas, plan new works or put the finishing touches to a body of work.
The reasonably priced, self funded residencies are open to practicing artists from across the full spectrum of the arts regionally, nationally and internationally. The self-funded (residents secure their own funding) and self-catering (residents purchase their own food and prepare their own meals) residency is available for periods of minimum 3 weeks to 3 months all year at a cost of $400 per week. A non refundable deposit of 2 weeks is payable to confirm your booking with the balance to be paid upon commencement of the residency.
The residency space is available from March until early December each year.
Applications are open all year. creativeartresidencies.weebly.com/apply-now.html
Accepted residents can tailor the length of their residency, between 3 weeks and 3 months and their project to suit their objectives and there is no requirement to complete a body of work.
However, there is a requirement to produce a small publication and a video documenting the experience, work process and insights gained to build an archive of projects and for promotional purposes.
We also seek to create connections between artists and the nearby communities through exhibitions, school visits, workshops, performances and would like the artist to offer a community engagement activity during the residency period. This could be by way of a talk at a local school or art venue, open day at the residency space, workshop or a demonstration.
The beachfront location at Pataua South near Whangarei offers a peaceful location which is ideal for writers, poets, musicians, painters, photographers, film makers, sound artists, sculptors etc to immerse themselves in the peace and tranquility of this special location.
